What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are ultra-thin shells, usually made of dental-grade porcelain. Veneers conceal mild to moderate cosmetic imperfections like chips, stains, minor misalignment, and more. Dr. Heller attaches the veneers to the front surface of your teeth with a powerful bonding agent that can last up to a decade.

3 Reasons Patients Love
Porcelain Veneers

Simple Procedure

Most patients only require two quick, uncomplicated appointments to receive porcelain veneers. Veneers involve minimal alteration of the natural tooth structure, and most patients need only local anesthesia for the procedure.

Easy Maintenance

Veneers are non-removable and can be cared for just like your natural teeth. With proper maintenance and regular dental checkups, your veneers can easily last for 10 years or longer.

Beautiful Results

Our veneers in Victoria, TX, are made of advanced porcelain that beautifully resembles natural enamel. Veneers can give you a bright, straight, attractive smile that you'll love to show off.

Cosmetic Dentistry Consultations What You Should Expect

When you visit our Victoria practice to discuss cosmetic dentistry with Dr. Heller, you can expect to be greeted with a smile by our friendly team. When you sit down with our dentist, he will ask about your goals and take a look at your teeth and gums to determine your candidacy for different dental services.

If Dr. Heller discovers oral health issues like tooth decay or gum disease, he will treat those before you can qualify for veneers. If you are in good oral health, he will explain to you the pros and cons of veneers and help you decide if they are the right solution for you. If you choose to proceed with porcelain veneers, we will use our advanced imaging technology to create impressions of your teeth, and then we will schedule your veneers procedure.

Tooth Modification

Before he can place veneers, Dr. Heller must remove a thin layer of enamel from each treated tooth. This is necessary so that the veneers lie flush with adjacent teeth and don't appear bulky. Our dentist will use local anesthesia to make you as comfortable as possible during this step.

Impressions

After modifying each treated tooth, we will take impressions of your new bite. Depending on your case, we may use traditional dental impressions or modern digital impressions. The model we create of your altered bite will be used to precisely craft veneers that fit your teeth. After taking impressions, we may place temporary veneers for you to wear while your permanent restorations are being created.

Veneer Fabrication

In some cases, we can create same-day veneers ourselves using our in-office CEREC machine. In other circumstances, we will send your impressions to a trusted dental lab, where specialized technicians will hand-craft your veneers. This process usually takes two to three weeks.

Veneer Placement

Once your veneers have been created, you will return to our Victoria office. Our dentist will remove your temporary veneers and attach the permanent veneers with durable, long-lasting dental cement. There is no recovery time required after receiving veneers, so you can return to your daily routine right away. You may experience some minor tooth sensitivity that will subside after a few days.

Smile!

After your veneers are in place, any stain, chip, or crack in your teeth that caused you embarrassment will be completely concealed. You will have a confident, healthy-looking smile, but no one will be able to tell that you have veneers.

Interested in a Complete Smile Makeover?

When considering all your treatment options, know that you don't have to settle for just one technique. If multiple dentistry treatments are needed to achieve your goals, Dr. Heller can provide a custom smile makeover.

A smile makeover combines two or more treatments into one streamlined procedure tailored to your goals. Rather than undergo the procedures separately, a smile makeover can save you time and money. In the end, you can expect to achieve the smile you have always wanted. Find out what we can do for you by scheduling a consultation at our Victoria practice.

Caring for Veneers

Brush and Floss

To keep your veneers looking great and your teeth as healthy as possible, it's important that you brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. Dr. Heller will show you how to brush and floss without dislodging the veneers.

Break Bad Habits

Porcelain veneers are durable and can endure normal biting and chewing, but if you have bad habits like chewing on pens, biting your fingernails, or opening packages with your teeth, you are more likely to damage or dislodge your veneers.

Visit Our Dentist

To keep your teeth and gums in excellent health, attend routine checkups at our Victoria practice at least twice a year. That enables Dr. Heller to keep an eye on your oral health, and it allows our hygienists to remove plaque and tartar you can't reach on your own.

Alternatives to Porcelain Veneers

Veneers vs. Teeth Whitening

If you are primarily interested in veneers because of stains in your teeth, professional teeth whitening may be a more conservative and affordable treatment option. However, some stains are too deep and permanent for even the most advanced whitening gels. If that's the case, masking the stained teeth with veneers can give you the bright smile you desire.

Veneers vs. Dental Crowns

While a porcelain veneer attaches to the front surface of a tooth, a dental crown completely encapsulates the tooth. Dental crowns usually protect teeth that have been treated with root canal therapy, but patients also get them for cosmetic purposes. If your tooth is too significantly chipped or broken to support a veneer, a dental crown may be the better option.

Veneers vs. Dental Bonding

Dental bonding is a tooth-colored resin we apply directly to your teeth to conceal flaws and improve shape. Unlike porcelain veneers, bonding does not require permanent alterations to the enamel and is more affordable. Nevertheless, the resin can be slightly less natural-looking than porcelain, making veneers a better option for larger imperfections and highly visible front teeth.
